School Story

I remember very little of my high school days, other than giving up some things I had really enjoyed in previous schools. My art schooling which I dearly loved, ended when I left Newman in 7th grade, My sporting life--softball, basketball and volleyball varsity ended when I left McMain after 9th grade. And so Franklin was not a great time, other than some really interesting, smart people who made for some fun experiences, and a few exceptional teachers. There were also some unbelievably bad teachers.

Some people I have stayed in touch with, some I have happily been reacquainted with through the reunion. Looking forward to getting to know everyone better.

What are you up to now?

Getting my new venture, Studio Bazaar going. A business that evolves following my own creative spirit– satisfying myself, not my clients.

Retirement

Retirement means not doing things that do not satisfy my soul.

What makes your life rich?

People. Family & Friends

How have your values changed as you grow older?

I do not think that my core values have really changed much. Although experience has taught me a lot of things that have mostly reinforced what I already believed. People and relationships bring value to life. The best things in llfe are not "things."

How would you like to be remembered?

Fondly, and with a smile.

Convince others to come to the reunion

It should be interesting.

Sad loss. Although we were not close in high school --- I feel a real sense of loss. In high school, she seemed the epitome of school spirit and cheerleader-liness--- I was much more of a rebel. But as many years passed we got to know each other a little better and my respect grew, acknowledging our shared experiences and challenges, and those of many other women of our moment in time. Pat seemed to do all the right things--marriage to the high school football star, two beautiful children—one boy an one girl, so much knowledge andtalent and potential for a great career. But along the way there were disappointments--a divorce, career setbacks that might have been related to her role as a strong woman in a man's world. Talents sometimes realized, sometimes frustrated, often long periods of not seeing her kids and her beautiful grandson--blame physical distances and COVD, and sadly--ill health and a healthcare system that did not do her justice. Although we were clearly very different, we were also alike in many of the challenges we faced. I will miss her. May her memory be a blessing.

I am hosting a program on 3/17 at 6:30 pm via Zoom. We are viewing a film From the Second Wave to the Tidal Wave that tells the stories of three women who were part of the Second Wave. I think we fit in there. It also reflects on the upset victory of Donald Trump and the Women's March on 1/21/2017. Following the film I will moderate a live discussion with the filmmaker Pam Maus and the three women profiled in the film. It should be a lively discussion. If you would like a link to the event or to preview the film, Let me know at briannshear@gmail.com.

I am trying to make the most of time at home. Facing all those tasks I so successfully avoid because I am too busy. But now they stare me in the face 24-7. But i am also reading books, watching movies, listening to music. I love the sedentary pleasures. Getting out to walk the dogs. Ordering groceries on-line and actually cooking instead of going out. My husband has leukemia so I am on very good behavior to avoid spreading anything to him. My granddaughter and I spend lots of time Facetiming. and it is good to know that all the technology and social media can serve a good purpose at times like this. Looking forward to some celebratory gatherings when we get through this. Hope all stay well and...Keep your distance!

so sorry to hear about your dad. It is a hard time with people unable to gather and comfort each other in that way.

Hi, Classmates. Fellow classmate Deb Laventhal Burkholder and I have collaborated on a children's book about her old Dog Maggie. She wrote the story and asked me to illustrate it. A fun project with satisfying results.

Cheri was one of my best friends at Franklin. While I think that I ususally gave the impression of a "good girl," I was often a back-up player to Cheri's antics. I remember The Santa Mouse sketch very well, including the large quantities of liquor consumed prior to the performance.

Cheri was certainly one of a kind. I attended her funeral and was so sad that she had ended her life.
