Ken was a prince of a guy and of course an excellent student. I taught his sister Betsy earlier. She was a perfectionist, a valedictorian in the class of 1965, but without slighting her in the least, Ken was the more insightful thinker and writer. Sad to see such a nice and taelnted person die so young.

Thanks to Ken's sister Betsy for sending us a copy of his obituary.

Kenneth Wauchope, a computer scientist, died June 6, 2005 of cancer at Lambeth House in New Orleans. He was 55. Mr. Wauchope was born in New Orleans and lived in Temple Hills, Maryland for the past 20 years. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Tulane University. He was employed as a computer scientist for 20 years at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. (Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence), where he performed basic and applied research in building artificially intelligent natural language. He was a musician and played in the Columbia Recorder Quartet. He was president of the Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club for the past three years. Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Wauchope of New Orleans, and a sister, Betsy Bainbridge of Riverside, California. Burial will be private. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
